For those who want to get into kickboxing, there are some decisions to make and a lot to learn.
The first decision that has to be made is that an individual wants to focus on kickboxing which is part of the martial arts category. Proper research should be done as to how to get started. There are plenty of resources that can be used for this purpose.
There are several different categories of kickboxing that can be enjoyed. This is the next decision that has to be made. Once that is determined then there are the rules that have to be learned for those specific categories. Some example of categories are:
- Full contact
The rules pertain to what clothing and safety equipment has to be used. Also what manoeuvres are allowed.
Once an individual has become involved in kickboxing then they are going to want to work through the different grades. Like several of the other martial arts, the ratings for kickboxers is done according to belts. Whether the belt grading system is used will depend on which category of kickboxing is being entered into. For example, those that are doing cardio kickboxing will not likely be in a class that uses the best system.
In the other categories of kickboxing, the belt system is normally used to identify what level a kickboxer is at. The white belt signifies the beginner. From here different colours are used to grade the participant such as:
- Brown which signifies the intermediates
The ultimate belt to earn is the black belt but this too is graded by levels such as:
- First dams
- Second dans
- Third dans
Being as these all apply to the black belt stripes are used to signify the dans.
